The
landscape of the ranch is stupendous, and varied,
with granite kopjes, bush and grass veld and tumbled
mountains. There are unique features such as a
Quiver tree (aloe dichotoma) forest in “the
badlands”, and the table top Gamsberg Mountain
overlooking the ranch. This is Namibia’s
third highest mountain (2349 m) and is accompanied
by Little Gamsberg mountain. Views of these mountains
from the ranch house are memorable, especially
the amazing sunsets. There are several dams with
interesting bird life, unique plant species and
a feeling of privacy in the wilderness.
The climate at the ranch ranges from freezing
on winter nights to 35 degrees C on hot days.
The atmosphere is considered to be the cleanest
in the world and the area is famous for stargazing
and astronomy. Groot Gamsberg mountain used to
be leased by the famous Max Planck astronomy Foundation
in Germany. |
