The eldest son of the late Lt. Roger Hurt D.S.O., Kenya Game Warden, Robin was born in London in 1945 and grew up on the Hurt family ranch on the shores of Lake Naivasha in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. By the age of 9 Robin was already learning about the African bush and hunting with his father’s scouts.

Robin was educated at Kenya’s premier school- the Duke of York, before serving his apprenticeship with Ker and Downey Safaris. At the age of 18 Robin was a fully licenced Professional Hunter.

Robin has hunted professionally in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan, Central African Republic, Congo, Botswana, Zambia, Ethiopia and Southern Africa. His clients form these safaris have hunted many record world class Big Game trophies.

When not hunting in Tanzania, Robin can be found on safari in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Namibia’s desserts, travelling within the USA and Europe or Partridge shooting in Spain and Pheasant shooting in Devon, England. Robin is an avid Wildlife Art collector and keen photographer.

Robin has five children - Derek, Tania, Sasha, Hilary and Roger. Derek and Roger are now actively involved with the day to day management of the Tanzania Company.

DEREK HURT
Derek was born in 1966 in Kampala, Uganda. After a secondary school education in England, Derek returned to Kenya and spent a year working on various ranches, where he gained valuable experience hunting dangerous game for crop and livestock protection. At the age of 18 Derek spent 6 months in Tanzania with Tanzania Game Tracker Safaris as a trainee hunter before attending Agricultural College in England.

In 1989 Derek returned to East Africa to join the family business as a safari guide and in charge of Maintenance and Logistics of the Company Fleet. At the same time he continued his apprenticeship as a Professional Hunter.

Derek obtained his PH licence in 1992 and for the past 14 years has been hunting professionally in Tanzania for Robin Hurt Safaris (Tz) Ltd. He has built up a loyal and ever expanding list of clientele. Derek has a good understanding of hunting in South Africa, Botswana and Namibia having accompanied his clients to all 3 countries. During the Tanzania closed hunting season, Derek enjoys guiding Luxury Tented Photographic Safaris in both Kenya and Tanzania and another of his passions is game bird shooting.

In February 2006 Derek married Belinda Johanson and they now live on a farm in Arusha overlooking Mt Kilimanjaro.

ROGER HURT
Roger was born in 1980 in Nairobi, Kenya. He was schooled in both Kenya and the United Kingdom before spending 3 years at Newcastle University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Biology with Honours.

Roger’s early childhood was spent accompanying his parents on safaris in Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Sudan, Uganda, South Africa and Namibia.

On leaving university Roger worked for a year on a farm in Suffolk, England before returning to Kenya and to escort photographic safaris. Roger joined the family firm in 2003 and when not in the bush, can be found in the Nairobi office.

Roger has spent time in South Africa on a Professional Hunters Course and obtained his Tanzania PH Licence in 2005.
